a smidge too late

and i mean but a millisecond! and another one happened about 1 second before that: there were two ducks lingering outside the art museum looking for all the world like they were about to go ahead inside and check things out.

but alas, such is the nature of photography i s'pose, what with the moment and all...

blue

sometimes it's just how ya feel...

drawing, for example

i feel like i've been rediscovering things lately: real film photography, drawing, banjo...

i always draw r.'s face. it's pretty distinctive, tho perhaps we all feel that way about the people we love. regardless, i find it infinitely drawable and i always see something new, even from the same angle.

first time in a long while

it was just a test roll and i can't find the dohickey in my scanner that keeps the negs flat, but i sure am glad i picked up my old holga. the dreamy hazy blurry and often blue quality captures the slow and slightly sinister spirit of the bayous and small towns around new orleans.

and of course, it seems it just wouldn't be a post lately without a picture of miles:

favorite thing to do

his favorite pastime is chasing tennis balls at the beach. he's developed a new language for the seaside- it's very musical and he never uses it anywhere else. so as soon as it gets warm, we usually take him at least once during the weekend. it's not the fanciest of beaches but it's clean, uncrowded and close so we love it!

this stuff happens all the time

it's a big part of why i like my 'hood. there are bits i don't like...the odd gunshot for instance- but this i can dig:

in the hiz

for the most part i'm pretty happy with my house tho i have been called, on occasion, "the constant decorator" because it might appear, from the outside, that i am never satisfied. i prefer to think of it as work in progress or a house-shaped hyper-color mood ring that i live in. i do a lot of re-painting. i have been known to re-do floors. several times. in one week.

i'm pretty stoked i found another banjo teacher. i think it's really important (for me) to have hobbies. especially since the day i make it as a fashion designer is seeming more and more remote...sigh.

tiny gladiators

then and before then

so i was going through my photo archives, trying to get errrrganized and backup and whatnot when i came across some images from when we first moved here during the hothot summer of 2005, just before The Storm. it's sometimes just so special to go through old photos and get to see things for the first time all over again.
